Written and directed by Deanna Milligan and Ramsey Fendall, LUCID is a surreal, art-punk horror film about creativity, identity, and the monsters buried within our subconscious.

It’s 1994, and art student Mia Sunshine Jones is on the verge of being kicked out of school. Desperate to break through her creative block and discover her artistic voice, she turns to a mysterious lucid dreaming elixir. The potion awakens her creativity but also sends her into an increasingly surreal dreamscape, where suppressed memories and inner demons manifest as very real monsters.

‍Shot on 35mm and Super 8 in Victoria, British Columbia, LUCID embraces a handmade, experimental approach to filmmaking and a raw visual aesthetic rooted in the art and grunge culture of the 1990s.‍ ‍

The film had its World Premiere at the Fantasia International Film Festival, followed by its European Premiere at the Sitges Film Festival and U.S. Premiere at the Brooklyn Horror Film Festival. ‍

Following its international festival run, Filmoption International acquired the film for Canadian distribution and international sales. The film opened theatrically in Canada in May 2026. Dark Star Pictures subsequently acquired U.S. rights for a theatrical and digital release.
